Advantage of lactic acid bacteria, bacillus & yeast and their application as feed additive in dairy cattles

 Microecological preparations were used widely as feed-additive in animal industry, which are  the most promising alternatives to antibiotics. As feed additive, probiotics beneficially affect the host animal by improving its microbial balance. They are diverse and exerting their action through different mechanisms.

The most commonly used probiotics in dairy cattle including three categories: (1) lactic acid bacteria preparation; (2) Bacillus preparation; (3) yeast preparation. Dietary supplementation of them can improve and optimize the microecological environment in rumen without drug resistance. Probiotics are primarily targeted for enhancing intestinal health, improving milk production and feed conversion efficiency. In another word, they can be used as “green” feed additive to improve production, feed efficiency, intestinal health and safety of dairy production.

Lactic acid bacteria: Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are characterised by their production of lactic acid. The most widely used probiotic strain in the cattle industry was Lactobacillus. In in vivo studies, it was found that Lactobacillus culture has the ability to reduce mastitis, it may be link to stimulation of the immune response through up-regulation of interleukin-1 (IL-1) and IL-8 in the mammary gland. Dietary supplementation of Lactobacillus can significantly increase the milk production and reduce the count of somatic cells.

Bacillus: Bacillus subtilis spores increased and broadened antibody level and T cell responses to a co-administered soluble antigen. They are very important for dairy cattle to enhance their health and milk safety. Adding Bacillus licheniformis into the diet for calves increased average daily gain of calves. Meanwhile, Bacillus licheniformis supplementation increased milk yield and milk protein. In addition, Bacillus licheniformis increased ruminal apparent nutrient digestibility of neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre, and organic matter (p< 0.05), it also increased microbial crude protein flow into duodenum (p<0.05), total VFA, and acetate concentration in ruminal fluid.

Yeast: Yeast products are widely utilized because in the rumen they can create better conditions for the growth of anaerobic cellulolytic bacteria by using the traces of available oxygen on the surfaces of freshly ingested feed, and stimulate their attachment to cellulose particles. Yeast preparation improves milk production and production efficiency in dairy cows.


Weihaoee

Microbial Feed Additive

Weihaoee is a microbial feed additive that was developed by Shenyang Fame Bio-Tech Co., Ltd. and Hankyong National University. The product enhances immunity and anti-stress ability of animals, prevents intestinal diseases and reduces ammonia concentration in broiler houses. The lactic acid bacteria and Bacillus strains of Weihaoee were isolated from Kimchee and underwent repeated screenings and experiments. The isolates were resistant against temperature, low pH and adverse environments and possess many characteristics beneficial for animal growth. These bacteria produce organic acid, bacteriocins and enzymes that inhibit pathogens in animal intestine and increase feed digestibility during fermentation. The anti-disease and growth improvement effects of Weihaoee have been confirmed in many scientific experiments and animal feeding practices. The product, which is a good substitute of antibiotics, is environment friendly and does not have any toxic side effects. Weihaoee is an ideal product for enhancement of economic rewards.
